Upon arrival at the airport in Oporto, we are greeted by our representative, who escorts us to our private motorcoach. We depart the airport and enjoy a visit to a local wine cellar for a Port wine tasting and tour. We continue to our hotel for check-in before our evening cruise on the Duoro River. We gather for our Welcome Dinner together at our hotel this evening.
(D) Day 3: Oporto – Guimarães – Braga – Oporto
After breakfast, we depart on an excursion to Guimarães and Braga. Upon arrival in Guimarães, known as the cradle of Portugal, we walk the medieval streets of the historic center to arrive at the palace of the Dukes of Bragança, a gothic building from the 15th century, where we see the refurbished chambers and palace chapel. After lunch on our own, we continue to Braga, the famous city of the archbishops, where we visit the Cathedral and the Baroque staircase of Bom Jesus Church. We return to Oporto this afternoon and dine together this evening.

This morning, we check out of our hotel and depart for Coimbra, stopping in Figueira da Foz en route. Figueira is a seaside resort town known for its outlandishly wide beach and outstanding waves. Here, we visit the CAE, or Center for Arts and Spectacles. After time for lunch on our own, we continue to Coimbra. Upon arrival, we enjoy a panoramic tour and a visit to the University of Coimbra, the oldest university in the Portuguese-speaking world. We check-in to our hotel and make dinner arrangements on our own.

This morning after breakfast, we check out of our hotel and depart for Lisbon, stopping en route in Fátima and Nazaré. We continue on to Nazaré, the most colorful of Portuguese fishing villages, to visit the Batalha Monastery. We arrive in Lisbon later this afternoon and continue to the riverside to admire the fortress known as Belém Tower, the Monument to Sea Discoveries, and the façade of Monastery of Jerónimos. We transfer to the hotel for check-in and dinner together.

This morning after breakfast, we tour potential performance venues in Lisbon such as the Colégio Sagrado Coração de Maria, the US Embassy, and São Roque Church. Later this morning, we depart for Sintra, described by Lord Byron as “Glorious Eden.” Here, we visit the Royal Palace, a labyrinth construction used by the Royal family as a summer residence from the 15th century to the early years of the 20th century. Next, we head for Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Continental Europe. On our return, we admire the wild and rocky coast near Guincho and the peaceful bay of Cascais and Estoril. Tonight, we gather for dinner at a local restaurant featuring Fado music and entertainment.
